Day 1
The first thing to do is take pictures of your home. Print them out. Circle or highlight everything that looks how you want it in one color and everything that is not how you want it in another color.
Day 2
Describe why you like the clutter. Was there someone you look up to who had junk around? Does it help you keep people out of your life? Anything you do is because you want to. If your home is cluttered, why is this something you want? Do you have fears about money and having lot’s of stuff helps you feel safe?
Day 3
Describe your pain. Describe what you will be able to do when you are organized and calm. Pick one room and decide what it’s for. Look over what’s actually in it and what fits in with your goals for the room.
Day 4
You haven’t touched one paper clip yet, but mentally you’ve moved boulders. Now begin organizing. Get a storage unit and rent a UHaul Truck. Hire moving help. Pick one room and empty it from top to bottom. Now clean! Get down on your hands and knees and scrub the floor. Get the carpets washed. Repaint if that will make you feel good about your space. Take before and after pictures. Celebrate for you are on your way!
Day 5
Go back to your storage unit. Put back into the room anything that makes sense. Take pictures. You can leave everything in storage for a year just in case you need it or throw it out. Generally after a year, if you haven’t missed it you won’t.
Day 6
Add any home decor that seems tasteful. Take pictures
Day 7
Invite a friend or 2 to look at your space. Show off what you’ve done.
YOU CAN NOW REPEAT THIS FOR EACH ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE. THIS WILL SET YOU FREE IN SMALL CHUNKS. REMEMBER TO TAKE PICTURES SO THAT YOU CAN SEE PROGRESS. MOST PEOPLE GIVE UP BECAUSE THEY DON’T TAKE THE TIME TO SEE HOW FAR THEY’VE COME.
